The grade 10 personal project exhibition was being held in bamboo, started from ten until three o'clock. The exhibition went out quite well, and there were a plenty of people who visit my personal project booth, and filled my surveys. From the 42 surveys I have prepared, 36 of the surveys are filled/done already by the visitors, with 6 surveys left. My intention is to raise awareness to people, about cosmetic surgery issues. The intention of this painting is to destroy the nowadays negative media pressure that tells how beautiful women nowadays should look like. It seems my goals has been achieved, by seeing from the survey results.
Seeing from the surveys result, shows that so far, my painting's final product has demonstrated a successful work through the exhibition, and has achieved my goals and specification. Since there are at least more than twenty positive opinions about my painting, based on the surveys' result. Even though the painting was exhibited in front of small group of community, which makes the exhibition to be the definite point of my painting to fully achieve its goal of raising awareness in community. A plenty of my booth's visitors said positive things about my painting, such as that the painting is a fantastic artwork, and has a real sophisticating and meaningful concept of cosmetic surgery awareness. The painting has successfully raised an awareness of cosmetic surgery, delivered its message toward the visitors, along with my presentation about cosmetic surgery issues as a support.
Although there are also some opinions that stated, if the painting is too vulgar, showing too much nudity, and disturbing. Different people have different varieties of opinion, since the painting is relative. In order not to bring much controversial of the exposed nudity, the painting is hidden behind the advertising board, with a closed curtain as the way for people who want to see my painting to enter.

Sunday, May 8
After finished the last touch of my background, I started to create and paint the human's figure, forming into woman's figure.
Friday, 6 May
I continued my painting after school, and finished the background color. I also re-do and fixed some parts, added a touch of playful color effect inside the background darkness. It took me a long time to finish the background, since there was a lot of re-do and fixing to do. The colorful effect around the mirror, and as the lightning effect in the background gives a playful impression.

Specification
In order to know, whether my my product has achieved its successful requirement or not, list of specification is needed to be created. The main goal of this project, is to make people understanding the ethical issues of cosmetic surgery, and understanding the concept and message from my painting, to prove it as an affective visual media. In order to find out the success of my product, I'm aiming to achieve for at least 10 comments from the visitors, during the exhibition time, that shows their understanding of my painting's concept, which is about cosmetic surgery's issues. I'm going to create a list of surveys about my final product, which the visitors can freely write about their thought and understanding about my painting. If there are for at least 10 positive comments from the visitors, who show their understanding of the painting's concept, that is the point when my final product has successfully achieve the goal. While if it's possible, it would be great to sell my painting with a price of at least 5 million rupiah.
Personal Statement
During period 2 at homeroom, Ms. Liz just explained to us, the outline for personal statement, and what are the things we're supposed to write for the report. I started to write my personal statement, started with the introduction of my project's topic, which is about cosmetic's surgery ethical issues. Meanwhile, I'm also doing my painting (which is the product's result), at the same time. I'm still at the stage of doing my product, so I'll just start to describe my topic first in the personal statement.

Documented evidence
1) 22 April, Friday:
I started to sketch on the A3 paper, using some drawing samples as the source. For the ideas, I am going to draw the "perfect figure" of a beautiful woman who's staring at herself in the mirror, still looking unsatisfied for her looks, no matter how beautiful she is. While the reflection of the mirror, reflects the figure of the woman's desire to fix her beauty through cosmetic surgery. An exaggeration of beauty id being reflected in the mirror (according to "hollywood's beauty perception"); oversized lips, oversized eyes, oversized boobs, way too long eyelashes. There are some surgery's tools to indicate that the reflection in the mirror, is doing cosmetic surgery (operation scissor, infuse). The exaggeration has a concealed message to tell the audience, that cosmetic surgery is not the solution to fix beauty, and does not always fix anything, that it might turned out into a bad addiction. The "perfect figure" of the beautiful woman symbolizes a low self esteem, not grateful for her looks, which is indicated by her unsatisfied expression. I use acrylic paints as the media, since the acrylic is drier and easier to use, which would be the most suitable in painting the rough & dry style. The painting is painted in such a dark background and rough style, to leave an impression of the woman's depression and mystery. The woman's body language and expression shows her unsatisfied desire of her looks, and searching for the "perfect beauty" through cosmetic surgery, as it is shown in the mirror. The woman is drawn in a naked figure, to show her beauty, leaving a strong sophisticated impression.\
2) 24 April, Sunday:
After finishing the sketch on A3 paper, I started to sketch on the canvas using pencil. For the canvas' size, I use 150 cm X 100 cm size, so that painting's result would look more appealing and attract audience's attention. By using a huge canvas size, I can express my artwork creativity more freely on it, and painting in more details.

Sunday 24 April
I started to sketch a rough draft on A3 paper for my painting, and express my ideas. For the painting, I am going to draw a beautiful figure of a woman, who's staring at herself in the mirror, while her expression shows an unsatisfied need of her looks. Meanwhile, the mirror's reflection shows a figure of a woman who gets cosmetic surgery, with an exaggeration impression of beauty (oversized eyes, mouth, boobs). The mirror's reflection reflects the woman's unsatisfied need of her own beauty, and it's never been enough for her to be beautiful. She keeps fixing her beauty through cosmetic surgery, just to satisfy her desire to look "perfect".

According to the Bible Perspective
Under some specific kind of circumstances, cosmetic surgery can still be considered as ethically acceptable; such as when the surgery is needed for a health purpose. But a surgery would have cross from its boundary limit, when it's used merely to fix beauty. According to the bible, it is wrong to do cosmetic surgery for beauty, for it means changing the way and image God already created for us human being. A bible verse of Genesis 1:26-27 says, “God spoke, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle and yes, Earth itself and every animal that moves on the face of the Earth’. Although cosmetic surgery might not necessarily being considered as a sin, but we should have been grateful and appreciate for the image God have created for us, in such a special purpose. Nobody is perfect from the outside appearance, but we all have our very own unique beauty that we should appreciate, and not changing it by cosmetic surgery. "Everyone has its own beauty, but not everyone sees it". Do not compare yourself with other people, because we are all just beautiful in different ways. Moreover, beauty perception keeps changing, it is relative. Just stay positive about your own look. Instead of using surgery merely for beauty, it can be used for another whole more important matter, such as for health matter.

Planning
Here's the following step by step procedure to create the final product, which is in the form of a painting:
- 1st draft: draw a rough sketch on A3 paper, just as an idea of what to draw on the canvas.
- Research for some pictures as the painting's resources.
- Start to sketch for the painting on the A3 paper first, using the researched pictures as a help.
- Start to sketch on the actual canvas using a pencil, based on what is already sketched before.
- Start to paint the canvas using acrylic paints, firstly started with base colors first.
- Then finish the painting in a last touch of colors.

Just be confident for the way you are
"Everyone has its own beauty, but not everyone sees it". Everybody is beautiful in their own unique way, for different people also have different beauty perception. What counts is the inner beauty, for the beauty inside our soul is far more important than physical beauty, since the physical beauty would not last long. What's the point of being beautiful outside when the inside is ugly? There is no need for cosmetic surgery, because we are all beautiful in our very own way, and there is no need to change our appearance, and just be the way we are. We are all the creations of God, and He create us in His image, we are all beautiful according to Him.
Look at Mother Teresa's smile, it shows the true and sincere kindness from her heart. Even in the old age, she still has her own true inner beauty that can be seen from the kindness of her face.

Exaggerating Beauty
21 March, 2011
The following painting exaggerates the concept of hollywood beauty, an example of celebrity who's too addicted with plastic surgery. In hollywood and international standards, big lips, boobs are considered as beautiful. While this painting emphasizes the parts, to make it seems even more dramatized.
American dream faces, both for men and women. According to the cosmetic surgery research, these are the faces based on the "perfect combination" of the celebrities' best parts. Angelina Jolie's lips with Katie Holme's eyes. Daniel Craig's baby blue eyes with Matt Damon's eyes. Surprising eh?

I found an interesting article from the newest Indonesian magazine that I just bought, which is talking about the true stories/experiences of cosmetic surgery's victims. One of the stories is about Alicia Douvall, a beautiful model who was born as a natural beautiful. Ironically, being born beautiful does not make her happy, instead she's suffering BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), and very insecure about her looks. She has done an uncounted numbers of cosmetic surgeries, at least 100 surgeries or more, and she has been spending for more than 1 million poundsterling! She is addicted of doing cosmetic surgeries to keep "fixing her beauty, but it turned out that surgery just make her looks worst. Now she's doing a rehab to heal her addiction from doing surgeries.

What is beauty?
20 March, 2011
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". The entire statement tells us that the concept of beauty is relative, there is right or wrong answer of beauty. Considering the varieties of different opinions and perspectives, there are a whole lots of different beauty perception in different places all over the world. Western society set different beauty standards than the Asian society. Beauty perception keeps changing as the time passed by, just like a trend, and nothing's ever certain. In South Korea, the women has been doing cosmetic surgery like it's a trend. They keep doing surgeries to fix their looks, and never get satisfied with themselves. Actually everybody is beautiful in their own different ways, and there's no need to change it, despite the beauty standards set by.
Here are some of the following examples of beauty perception over different times and societies:
Kalimantan, Indonesia. In Dayak people culture, the bigger the ear holes, the more beautiful the women. Ouch, that might hurts..
When you notice it carefully, the following famous painting of Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, Mona Lisa does not have any eyebrows nor eye lashes left on her face. Back then in medieval times, European cultures, shaving the entire eyebrows and eye lashes was a famous trend in the society.
Back then in ancient Chinese times, small feet of women was considered as beautiful. The women in China forced their feet to fit inside a super small sized shoes, cause it to be crooked badly..

Ethiopia, Mursis' sign of beauty

BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder)
March 18, 2011
What is BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder)? a psychological problem that involves obsessions, which are distressing thoughts that repeatedly intrude into a person's awareness. With BDD, the distressing thoughts are about perceived appearance flaws. People who suffered from BDD, often done an excessive grooming for their appearance, and an appearance perfectionist.
How does BDD related to cosmetic surgery? People who had done cosmetic appearance to fix their appearance, often times suffering from BDD. They never get satisfied with their appearance r being grateful, instead they're obsessed to fix the "imaginary flaws", even to the smallest unimportant flaw. They exaggerated for finding themselves looking way too hideous and search for the "perfect beauty", which the perception is relative. Some have done it through cosmetic surgery to change their appearance better. Alicia Douvall is one of the example, she is a model who grew up as a beautiful teenager, and suffered from BDD so badly, that she never get satisfied with her looks, even after she has done a plenty of cosmetic surgery.

I went to the Tomato art exhibition, seeing at the wonderful artwork done by the students. I found a painting which explains things about cosmetic surger, drawn by a Korean student. She draws it, to make people aware of the misused of cosmetic surgery for beauty, which often happens in Korea.

Michael Jackson's Failed Plastic Surgery!
March 2, 2011
A Photographic History of Michael Jackson's Face With blithering, yet witty commentary
1979 age 21 | Hard to believe - this was Michael Jackson. He was born August 28, 1958 - one of 9 kids. His father reportedly nicknamed him "Big Nose".
1984 age 26 | Mike gets his nose slightly narrowed and his eyebrows shaped. This was his "Thriller" Era and he was smokin'. People did notice this facial change and commented on it - guys just didn't do this back then. Some in the Black community made comments about him having a problem with his African-American looks and making his nose more "White". He was cute as hell, though. Oh, baby. He gave coherent interviews. He had a cute sense of humor and was seen on TV doing other things besides whining, faking tears and defending legal charges. He didn't wear a face mask in public. He smiled a big, infectious smile. He was humble and grateful for his fame and his fans' appreciation. He made hit after hit, celebrated music videos one after another, sealed obscenely huge record sales and contracts. He had unprecedented $ponsorship deals with Pepsi, and LA Gear Sportwear. People stood in line at 1AM to purchase "Thriller" when it came out, even though the store didn't open until 9 AM.
1985 age 27 |

1987 age 29 |
| Sigourney |
1991 age 32 |
In an insult to transvestite men everywhere - who can look pretty damn good in a dress and makeup and can project alluring female charm - when Mike does this, he doesn't even have the decency to stop grabbing his crotch every 1.0045 seconds and allowing that image for us. His skin is getting lighter still even though it's supposedly already been lightened (or not...who do you believe? Him or his PR people?). His public antics are presented weekly, as are his new lip colors. He should pick a damn color and stick with it already. Eyebrows were whittled down to Joan Crawford peaks. He now has an interesting, manly cleft in his chin and a dropped, square jawline. The joke was that he was really his sister LaToya - you notice you never saw them in the same room together? He gets his nose done again and now sports little teeny triangles for nostrils and a sharp razor ridge you could grate cheese on. Popular opinion is he "fucked it up". He defends himself in the press by asking why people make such a Thang out of it... a lot of people get a little nose work done! and it's not national news! Sheesh already! Can't you leave him alone?! He's got a skin disease! (although having Vitilgo has nothing to do with having nonstop plastic surgery). He had a bad childhood! He's a nice person! He recycles his plastics! Even people in his 'camp' are publicly saying the man's elevator isn't going to the top floor anymore. | LaToya. I think |
1993 age 34 |
He messed with it all again. Current Color: toilet paper pink. Cheeks: Squirrel socking nuts away for the winter. Reportedly the tip of his nose is so damaged from the operations that the tissue has died, and he's now wearing a fake prothesis tip. (Ya think? ). This unnecessary and seemingly nonstop alteration has passed into the realm of "self-mutilation" and when the shocking news of child molestation charges come to light, it's the last straw for his sponsors Pepsi, LA Gear and others who cancel his contracts. The public, who forgave his mounting eccentricities because of his incredible talents nod in silence about it all, unsurprised. Most remark that someone with this going on visibly outside has to have a lot of demons going on inside. In his defense, Mike launches his second career as Whining, Weeping, Hurt, Offended, Innocent Victim. Like being instantly on the verge of tears at any legit question he wants to avoid is also "normal". | Ms. Judy Jetson |
1997 age 38 Bizarro Michael |
| Bizarro Superman |
1999 age 41 |
New chin again. Nose again. New cheeks. Smaller jaw. The Bizarro angles gone. The gaunt look is replaced by rounder fluff. This would all be amusing as Theater except this is how he's walking around, every day, pretending this is all perfectly normal. The weirdest thing is people act like it is. I mean, you never see photos of Mike dragging the usual 3 or 4 little boys around with him, at some awards show and see people in the background throwing up. Rumor has it he transplanted some pubic hair to his jaw to try to make a Goatee in an attempt to butch up , but the thought is too repulsive to dwell on. Of course that's just Tabloid fodder. | The Joker |
2000 age 41 |
Oh, this isn't looking good...a Goatee! Suddenly his jaw is an inch longer. He got his eyes pulled so tight he looks Oriental and they've ceased to line up properly. His lips have a hint of that lizard-lock smile you see on people who have overdone the facelifts. Good thing Japanese Anime cartoons are taking the US by storm so this is kind of fashionable. Hey, if you plaster the make up on enough, you can make anyone look good. A new fad are the "Glamor Shot" Stores, where women plop down huge amounts of $$$ to have technicians professionally do their make-up, hair. Photography experts professionally light them and transform the package into a drop dead gorgeous, stunning New You and take photograph evidence that it was actually managed. Everyday women are transformed into sensual, perfect creatures. Because of this It hits us that this is the trick Michael's been using in all those perfect professional photos we see of him! You mean all those photos of him are retouched?! Say it ain't so! When he's caught in public it's quite a different matter. And ack! Is that pubic hair? |
2001 age 42 |
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! GAHHHHHH!! Oh, sorry....My, my.. where does one start? Here is Michael at the age of 42 with his wrecked face and apparently no makeup. Gone the artistry of the airbrush, wizardry of make up artists and the kind, magic lighting of studio crafted reality. You can see the rumored (please note inventive use of word "rumored" to avoid a law suit...) fake-nose-tip-prothesis hanging off as well as the scars. The thin little beak nose of 1997 seems to have expanded once again. It's hard to see a human being in there, and it's amazing there are plastic surgeons who can mutilate someone like this and sleep at night. I wish I had $1 for every ranting "fan" who's accused me of altering this photo or airbrushing/faking the photos on this page. I tell them that's called "getting sued to oblivion" ", if it were true on my part. All these photos are from fan or "official" web sites or major publications and can be obtained by anyone willing to use a search engine for an hour or two. Information on Mike's face, his surgeries, his bizarre personal and public actions and the words of people who have stopped covering for him fill ten of thousands of web sites. | Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" a great, creepy movie

Oct 2002 age 44 | Tracey Orvez took this photo in the parking lot of the Beverly Regent Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. She heard he was there so waited in hopes of seeing him. What a surprize it must have been to see The Mike, making his way to his limo dressed in only blue Jammies with snow flakes and polar bears on them. Always a good look for a star, I say. She asked if she could take his photo and he said sure...as long as she "stood well back". I can't imagine why. The publicly decried "third nostril", which appeared after the January plastic surgery (see above photo) that a few took time out of their busy days to write and inform me I was full of shit about, seems to be closing up but has left an obvious scar. The tip, which has been rumored (damn, I'm good) to have died and/or be a puttied-on prothesis looks to be dead tissue and/or a puttied on prothesis. Said Ms. Orvez: "He looked like a ghoul. When I had the picture developed, I was sick. The guy doesn't appear to have a nose." Well, when you hack away at it for 15 years, that happens. But as my detractors write to me, I just put these vicious "lies" up because I'm "jealous". I am, boy howdy! I'm jealous I don't have whatever it is Mike's on to make his pupils the size of dinner plates. And I wouldreally love some Polar bear and snowflake jammies myself. I wish Tracey mentioned if they had Feets in them or not! It's hell trying to find "fun" jammie feets pajamas when you're a grown up woman. How envious I am that a grown man can! | Evil Dead 2
Nov 13, 2002 |
Jackson wore a surgical mask when entering and leaving the courthouse (gee..wonder why?). His former publicist says he routinely wears the mask "to protect his throat from pollution and germs". Like that reason in itself is a perfectly normal one. You see anyone else walking around with surgical masks on? Perhaps it's to hide the dead, rotting tip of his putty nose. Just to throw out an idea here. What I think we have here is the New Howard Hughes. I like the wig though. I wasn't aware that the historic (3000 - 1200 BC) tradition of wearing dead marmots on your head had been revived. Are those caterpillar eyebrows? A 1000-yard stare? What a trend setter! Thirty fans were allowed into the courtroom after winning that "honor" by Lotto. | Ari from Planet of the Apes Suggested and sent by the McManus family, Sherry, & about 80 more. I like how you think..
Sept. 2004 |
We can all rest easier now - Michael got a new nose courtesy of Dr. Werner Mang, a German Plastic surgeon. Not only is Dr. Mang a gifted genius, but he doesn't mind talking about how he made Michael a new nose out of part of his ear. Just in time for Mike's child molestation trial, so he's looking good. Except for wearing white to court, and everyone knows you don't wear white after Labor Day. So Dr. Mang says that Mike's "people" in 1998 about fixing his nose, since it was rotting off his face. Mang did the operation in the office of Michael's regular plastic surgeon, the one who ought to be sued for malpractice. He took a slice of cartilage from Mike's ear and slapped that puppy on his non-nose. He stated that Michael has an obsession with plastic surgery and wants to change from a black man to a white woman. He really said that, too. I really like this doctor. He thinks like me! Michael's regular plastic surgeon said that after every album, Mike had more surgery done and always wanted a thinner nose. Michael, however, still claims he only had two procedures done on his nose and nothing else. Not one thing. His face just sort of "squared out" and, mercifully, he got a much better wig. | Mr. Potatohead |
Here's the following example of one of the worst cosmetic surgery, done by a famous singer, Michael Jackson (MJ). The history of MJ's cosmetic surgeries is fully listed from the very first hand, when his face was still naturally cute, until it is hideously turned into a potato beast, by the poorly done cosmetic surgery. One of the factors that cause MJ to done cosmetic surgery, is because he did not being grateful of his appearance, his lack of self confidence for his dark skin color, for being a black man. In that time, dark skin color was considered as low, white people were racist toward the black people. Such a peer pressure, has affected MJ for changing his skin color into white.
Nowadays, the ideal beauty concept puts a heavy pressure to many women for lacking their confidence, and peer pressure for them to do a cosmetic surgery in order to create a "perfect look". Apparently, there is no such thing called the "perfect look". It is once said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Especially for such an updated beauty concept, most commonly affect the hollywood celebrities who works in the entertainment industry, which put much heavy pressure from the public and industry's demand, for the celebrities to improve their looks. This cause many celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Pamela Anderson, Angelina Jolie, etc. to done cosmetic surgery specially for their beauty. Such a surgery would costs a lot of consequences, for the expensive costs, failed surgery, just because of such small beauty matters. If this keeps happening, cosmetic surgery would become such a habit or even an addiction, which is not good for our society.
